The Facts

Types of Equipment Built:

Automation Specialists builds assembly, manufacturing and inspection systems.  We are platform independent, and have built systems using many sorts of chassis, including:

  • Lean Cell/Manual Work Cell
  • Dial
  • Precision Link
  • Power & Free Conveyor
  • Line shaft/synchronous cam
  • Web (low speed)

Project Sizes/Capacity:

Automation Specialists Services is small but growing shop.  As such, our capacity is something of a moving target.  We have built several systems in the 1 to 1.25 million range, and our average project size is $650,000.  Of course, we routinely handle much smaller projects in the $50,000 range, particularly as a means of “proving” our capabilities.  We are targeting systems in the sub-one million USD range, and have the capacity to handle multiple projects in different phases of the design/build process on a normal schedule (30-34 weeks).

Our current weekly capacity is approximately:

  • 200-300 hours of mechanical engineering
  • 100 hours of controls/electrical design
  • Mechanical build/electrical build/machining is functionally unlimited, used as workload balancing (100 hours MB/50 hours EB dedicated)

The Chicago custom machinery industry is remarkably self-contained; we have worked with many of the area’s automation engineers for decades.  This history allows us to draw in trusted industry veterans as needed.

We are located in a 5,200 square foot facility in Hampshire, just off of I-90 and mid-way between Chicago and Rockford.  Facilities include a 3,500 square foot assembly floor, a machine shop (CNC mill, lathe, grinder, horizontal saw, etc.) and a small sheet metal/welding shop.
